Tips For Your New Year’s Resolutions

Struggling to stay on track with your resolutions? Many people are, but the good news is with some evaluations and planning you can get back on track.

Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind when it comes to resolutions.

  • Plan out and break down your resolution. Be specific about what you want to accomplish and keep it manageable. A great way to plan and break down your goals is to make SMART goals.
  • Make sure your goal motivates you. Trying to fulfill a New Year’s resolution based on what someone else wants for you makes it difficult to be successful.
  • When you begin making changes and working towards your goals remember t0 keep the changes gradual. Do your best to be patient, positive, and allow room for errors.
  • Write down your goals and review them regularly. It is much easier to stay on track with your goals when you think about them regularly. Also, writing them down will help you get specific with what you want to accomplish.
    • Set daily reminders for small tasks (apps like Asana, Todoist, and Trello can help you with this)
    • Have weekly check-ins to keep track of progress for your monthly goal
    • Write/type your goals on paper and tape them to your mirror or your wall
  • Share your resolution with family and friends or on social media. Sharing your resolution will help provide a sense of obligation and accountability.
  • If you get sidetracked don’t let your disappointment stop you from trying again.
    • Identify what caused or lead to your mistake and make changes accordingly
    • If you skip a task, make it up the next day and move on
    • If you don’t meet a goal at 100%, that is okay and not a failure
